If there was a drawback to this pool its the proximity to the main Staunton - Monmouth road. About 3 yards! That said the upside is that it is full of fish! The bag above was caught mid January from 10.30 - 12.30. I spoke to two other anglers who were also fishing who said that the biggest carp heard of here was over 20lbs. This pool is probably only around 1 acre in size and has approx. 12 good pegs. The rudd and roach that I caught were in excellent condition and the tench was also a good looking fish. When you feel that you cannot catch fish this is the venue to flatter your ego and restore confidence in your ability. Having said that the fish are not stupid so feed little and often and use rigs according to the species.
At the moment the water is suffering an increase in weed growth the club is looking to address this in the spring of 2008.
The weed has now been tackled and it is dying. In July 2008 a junior match was held here and fish were caught so the good news is that the fish do not appear to have suffered any ill effects from the action. This water has a good head of fish so it will be interesting to hear from anyone who has fished it since the weed kill to find out how the fish are coping with teh lack of cover and dare one say it food!
Parking can be difficult as you have to pull off the main Monmouth Road so do be careful when getting out and in of your vehicle.
